Inauguration of 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing Training at MAKAUT

C-DAC Kolkata hosted the inaugural ceremony of the training programme titled "3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing Technology" on May 6th, 2025, at Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Technology (MAKAUT), West Bengal. The event was held with the support of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.

Smt. Tulika Pandey, Scientist 'G' and Group Coordinator (HRD) at MeitY, graced the opening ceremony as the Chief Guest. In her address, she highlighted the vast scope and opportunities available to students in the field of 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing. She also emphasized the importance of regularly monitoring and reviewing the training programme's timeline and quality. The event was also attended by Prof. Tapas Chakraborty, Vice-Chancellor of MAKAUT, Government of West Bengal; Dr. Partha Pratim Lahiri, Registrar of MAKAUT; and Dr. Ch A S Murty, Scientist G, CISO, and Director of C-DAC Kolkata, who were present as Guests of Honour and shared their valuable insights on this rapidly evolving technology.

A number of prominent dignitaries added prestige to the event, including Prof. (Dr.)Nabarun Bhattacharyya, Director, School of Information Science & Technology, MAKAUT, Government of West Bengal; Shri Surendra Singh, Scientist 'E', MeitY, Government of India; and Shri Asit Kumar Singh, Chief Investigator of the Project, C-DAC, Kolkata. The collaborative institutions under this project namely Siliguri Institute of Technology, Dr. B. C. Roy Engineering College, College of Engineering & Management, Kolaghat, NIT Patna, Darbhanga College of Engineering and Bhagalpur College of Engineering joined this event virtually.

Prof. Tapas Chakraborty expressed heartfelt gratitude to MeitY for selecting MAKAUT as the Nodal Centre for the state of West Bengal. He further stated that MAKAUT is committed to extending its full support to ensure the success of this initiative, not only within the scientific community of West Bengal but also across the broader national landscape.

Dr. Ch A S Murty stated that as a scientific organization, the focus is not merely on capacity building, but on fostering capability development through the adoption of emerging technologies aligned with industry needs. The workshop was highly engaging and interactive, receiving positive feedback from the participants.
