To commemorate World Intellectual Property Day, the IP Cell at C-DAC Pune organized a webinar on April 29th, 2025, focusing on "Patent to Product to Profit: The Role of IP Protection in Commercializing Innovation." The webinar emphasized how strategically leveraging intellectual property (IP) can convert innovative concepts into thriving commercial ventures.
The webinar was inaugurated on behalf of the Centre Head, Shri. Sanjay Wandekar, setting the tone for an engaging and insightful programme. He also mentioned that C-DAC, Pune has established an IP Cell which will be supporting R&D activities with the means of Technology Landscape report, Whitespace Analysis, support for IP commercialization, etc. IP cell will continue to support of filing of IP.
The event featured speakers from both law firms and industry sectors. Participating industries have been supported in securing their patents globally through the Support for International Patent Protection in E&IT (SIP-EIT) programme and the IP Cell, formerly known as the Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Property (CoE-IP). Industry experts discussed how strategic IP management, backed by such initiatives, can catalyze business growth and enable successful global commercialization of innovative products, while legal experts shared insights on patent-based business strategies.
Ms. Primrosetina, Intellectual Property Manager at Idea Forge Technology Ltd., delivered a special address highlighting how a well-crafted IP strategy has been central to Idea Forge's success in the UAV sector. She emphasized aligning IP with business goals to create defensible market positions and long-term value.
Dr. Tejas Jhaveri, Founder of Jhaveri Labs, presented on the critical role of patents in electrical safety. He introduced PowerEasy, an IoT-based solution modernizing Distribution Boards to prevent fires and reduce energy losses. Dr. Jhaveri illustrated how international patents not only protect innovations but also scale their societal impact.
Renowned legal expert Ms. Swapna Sundar provided practical insights into enhancing the commercial value of patents. She discussed models of patent-based business strategies and urged innovators to assess and leverage their IP assets for maximum economic benefit.
The webinar attracted participants from a diverse spectrum of stakeholders, including R&D organizations such as C-DAC, CMET, SCL, and SAMEER; academic institutions like IIT and KL University; a range of industries encompassing technological startups and MSMEs; and various public sector organizations.
The webinar underscored the importance of IP as a driver of innovation and commercialization, reaffirming C-DAC Pune's continued commitment to fostering a strong IP culture across industries and academia.
