Siliguri
July 25, 2025
A comprehensive, full-time training programme on 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing successfully concluded at the Siliguri Institute of Technology (SIT) on July 25th, 2025. Running for nearly a month since June 28th, the course was a significant initiative under the "Finishing School Programme on 3D Printing & Additive Manufacturing Technology," a project backed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.
This course provided students with practical exposure of CAD design, slicing software, and working with industrial-grade 3D printers. By the end of the course, students had the opportunity to apply their new skills, developing working prototypes aimed at solving real-world challenges. These student-led innovations were then displayed and evaluated at Techvolution, a dedicated product showcase event held at the conclusion of the course.
The prototypes developed by these students represent a significant achievement, powerfully demonstrating their creativity, technical skills, and problem-solving abilities. This success further reinforces C-DAC's dedication to transforming theoretical classroom knowledge into hands-on innovation, ultimately cultivating a future-ready talent pool.
Here are the key projects developed during the course:
- Custom Macro-Pad - A programmable keypad that simplifies routine computer operations through single-press shortcuts.
- Smart Water Purifier - A low-cost, automated purifier with multi-stage filtration and touchless water dispensing, designed for home use.
- Robotic Arm with Screwdriver - A compact robotic tool for automated screwdriving tasks, useful in electronic assembly and maintenance.
- Plastic Sealant - A safe and portable device for sealing food packets, especially useful for micro and small businesses.
- Ergonomic Hand Grip - A dual-material handle designed to reduce hand strain, combining flexibility and strength for better grip and comfort.
- Mini CNC Plotter - A 2-axis plotter that can draw and engrave designs on flat surfaces, ideal for technical drawing and prototyping.
- Air Purifier - A 3D-printed modular air purifier, built for small indoor spaces and powered by USB, with an easy-to-maintain design
This training proved instrumental in helping students transform their innovative ideas into functional prototypes with promising real-world applications. It also powerfully demonstrates how programmes like this can empower the next generation of innovators and significantly bolster India's burgeoning digital manufacturing ecosystem.
