C-DAC, Kolkata, in partnership with the College of Engineering & Management, Kolaghat, recently hosted a two-day technical bootcamp focused on 3D Printing & Additive Manufacturing Technology. The event took place on July 25th - 26th, 2025, at Kolaghat Government Polytechnic College. This initiative is part of the Finishing School Program on 3D Printing & Additive Manufacturing Technology, a project funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. The programme aimed to introduce diploma engineering students to digital manufacturing, covering CAD modelling, slicing methodologies, and FDM-based 3D printing workflows.
The bootcamp's first day was dedicated to theoretical and software training. Students were introduced to CATIA V5 modules, specifically Part Design and Generative Shape Design, alongside the foundational principles and applications of Additive Manufacturing technologies.
Day two shifted to hands-on sessions conducted at the CEMK lab. Participants engaged in part modelling and slicing using software like Cura and GrabCAD Print. The highlight was live printing demonstrations on industrial FDM printers, including the 4DS and Stratasys F190CR, utilizing both PLA and ABS materials.
The bootcamp saw participation from 56 students and 3 faculty members of Kolaghat Government Polytechnic College. Feedback overwhelmingly indicated a strong interest in advanced Additive Manufacturing (AM) training among attendees. Faculty representatives recognized the bootcamp's significant contribution to outcome-based learning. They proposed its integration as a structured internship program within the State Council of Polytechnic Colleges' framework, potentially benefiting 77 institutions across West Bengal.
