Experts Gather to Chart Indias Neuromorphic Computing Roadmap

April 16, 2025

In a significant stride toward fostering indigenous innovation in next-generation computing technologies, C-DAC in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), organized a high-level Brainstorming Session on Neuromorphic Computing at IIT Delhi on April16th, 2025. C-DAC Chennai has taken this initiative as part of the Neuromorphic Computing Mission. The event brought together over 40 distinguished experts, scientists, and academicians from premier institutions across the country to deliberate on the future of Neuromorphic Computing in India.

The session commenced with opening remarks by Shri. Pramod PJ, Head of Corporate R&D, C-DAC, followed by a keynote address by Dr. Sangeetha Semwal, Scientist E, Nanotechnology Division, MeitY. A special address was delivered by Smt. Sunita Verma, Scientist G, Group Coordinator, MeitY, setting the tone for the collaborative vision behind the initiative.

Dr. D. Ethirajan, Centre Head, C-DAC Chennai, presented C-DAC's strategic mission in Neuromorphic Computing, laying out a roadmap in this transformative domain. This was followed by four thematic panel discussions namely "Neuromorphic Computing Building an Indigenous Processor: From Materials to Architectures", "Circuit-Level Innovations (Analog and Digital)", "Innovations at the Materials Level" and "From Devices to Systems" featuring eminent faculty members and researchers from leading academic institutions.

A dedicated Future Roadmap session facilitated strategic discussions on national objectives and milestones. Industry representatives from Aheesa Digital Innovations Private Limited and CyranAI Solutions also presented their insights and ongoing work in this rapidly evolving domain.

Institutions including IISc Bangalore, IIT Madras, IIT Patna, IIT BHU, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, JNCASR, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Jodhpur, IIT Roorkee, IISER Thiruvananthapuram, DUK, and IIT Kanpur were among the key academic contributors, marking the event as a landmark initiative in Neuromorphic Computing.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Shri. Jitesh Choudhary, Centre Head, CINE, who emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration and innovation in establishing India as a global leader in neuromorphic technologies.
