Online Course on Quantum Computing by C-DAC Hyderabad and IIT Roorkee

C-DAC Hyderabad in collaboration with IIT Roorkee jointly organized a one-month online course on Quantum Computing from May3rd, 2025 to May25th, 2025, during the weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) in online mode with the support of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.

The course was inaugurated on May 3rd, 2025 in online mode in the presence of Smt. Sunita Verma, Group Coordinator & Scientist-G, R&D in Electronics & IT Group, MeitY; Shri. E Magesh, Director General, C-DAC; Shri. Manoj Kumar Jain, Scientist-G, R&D in IT Group, MeitY, Dr. Lakshmi Eswari, Centre Head & Scientist-G, C-DAC Hyderabad, Prof. Sugata Gangopadhyay, Department of Computer Science, IIT Roorkee and Shri. Anoop Kumar, HoD, VLSIDAC Group & Scientist-F, C-DAC Hyderabad.

Smt. Sunita Verma, during the inaugural address, stressed the need for training in Quantum Computing domain. She highlighted different Quantum Computing projects being supported by MeitY namely India�s first indigenous Quantum Computer Simulator Toolkit QSim, 50-100 qubit Superconducting based Quantum Reference Facility, Centre of Excellence in Quantum Technologies at IISc Bangalore, project on Post quantum cryptography, Quantum communication and more. She also mentioned about the MeitY initiated project on Quantum Machine Learning in which various teams are contributing to Quantum Computing enabled machine learning research in the fields of drug discovery, surveillance, disaster management, weather and climate modelling.

Shri. E Magesh in his special address highlighted the importance of the Quantum Computing programmes, supported by the MeitY & DST, and mentioned the success of the Quantum Computer Simulator QSim which is being used by thousands of researchers. He also remarked on the development of 50-100 Quantum Reference facility at C-DAC. He emphasized the need for Quantum computing skills to make India actively contribute in this cutting-edge technology and he suggested participants of the course to gain maximum out of this training course.

Shri. Manoj Kumar Jain, Dr. Lakshmi Eswari, Prof. Sugata Gangopadhyay, also addressed the participants and presented their views and motivated the participants to attend this training and develop their skills in this cutting-edge technology.

Shri.Anoop Kumar delivered the vote of thanks, officially concluding the inauguration ceremony. Smt. Geeta Singh, Scientist C, R&D in IT Group, Shri. Tapas Saini, Scientist-E, C-DAC Hyderabad, Shri. Vivek Nainwal, Scientist-E, C-DAC Hyderabad and Smt. Vandana Chaturvedi, Project Engineer, C-DAC Hyderabad were also present during this occasion.

This course was initiated as part of project titled �Development of Quantum Machine Learning Use-cases and Applications� being executed jointly by C-DAC (Hyderabad, Mohali, Noida, Delhi, CINE), IIT (Roorkee, Ropar, Gandhinagar) and IIIT Hyderabad funded by R&D in IT Group, MeitY, Government of India.

The main objective of this course was to introduce the basics of Quantum Computing, Quantum Circuits, Quantum Simulators and Quantum Machine Learning based applications. The course has garnered an overwhelming response, with registration reaching up to 28,000 individuals. Participants' comprehension was assessed through a series of quizzes and assignments, with certificates awarded to those who successfully completed them.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by more than 8000 participants virtually through Webex and YouTube Live. The event concluded successfully, followed by the 1st technical session of the course. Screenshots of the inauguration ceremony and technical session are provided below.
