Thiruvananthapuram

September 30, 2025

The National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai, is a premier national institute dedicated to harnessing ocean resources and developing technologies for the sustainable utilization of our vast marine wealth. Over the years, NIOT has been at the forefront of pioneering research and innovations in ocean engineering, deep-sea mining, marine sensors, renewable ocean energy, and related domains.

As part of the Strategic Partnership between C-DAC and NIOT, a function was held at C-DAC Thiruvananthapuram on September 30th, 2025. The function witnessed the handing over of two orders from NIOT to the Strategic Electronics Group of C-DAC (T). The details are given below:

  1. "AI-Enabled Embedded Board as an Autonomous Mission Computer with Data Extraction and Decoding Software": The project focuses on the indigenous development of an embedded board for an autonomous mission computer, featuring C-DAC's indigenously developed VEGA processors and the Jetson AGX Orin AI Processor.
  2. "Development of Fibre Optic Multiplexer for Underwater Vehicles":Deep-sea exploration and subsea monitoring demand reliable, high-bandwidth communication between underwater instruments and surface control stations. A fiber optic multiplexer is a key enabling device that consolidates multiple data channels onto a single optical fibre.

These workshops not only highlighted the relevance of Hindi in the modern technological landscape but also sparked a new enthusiasm among students and teachers to explore and utilize Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools.

Prof. Balaji Ramakrishnan, Director, NIOT, was the Chief Guest for the function, which was presided over by Shri. E. Magesh, Director General, C-DAC. Dr. Kalai Selvan A., Director, C-DAC (T) delivered the welcome speech and Shri. Rajesh K. R., Scientist G & Group Head, Strategic Electronics Group, C-DAC (T) proposed the Vote of Thanks. A delegation from C-DAC, Pune led by Dr. Uddhavesh Sonavane, Scientist G and HoD, HPC-Medical and Bioinformatics Applications Group also participated in the function.
