A four-day Training and Certification programme on "Sector Specific Telecom Security - Level 1" was conducted from February 10th to 13th, 2025 at Cert-In, Shastri Park, New Delhi as part of "Generating Highly Skilled & Certified Cyber Security Professionals (CISOs)" for creating a robust mechanism for training and certification of CISOs, Deputy CISOs, associated team of CISOs/Aspirants of Government and other sectors under ISEA Project Phase-III by MeitY.

Ninenteen CISO level officers from Assistant Engineer to General Manager position from various Telecom Service Providers like MTNL, Tata Play Fiber, Bharti Airtel Limited, Amazon, Microscan Infocommtech Pvt Ltd, Vodafone Idea Limited, PowerGrid, ACT Fibernet and Cert-In across the country participated in the training programme.

This course covered various topics namely Overview of Telecom Network GSM, 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G, components and protocols in Telecom industry, Analysis of Telecom packets in security perspective, Analysis and identifying vulnerabilities in Telecom Network, Security Best practices in Telecom Industry. More hands-on training was provided to the participants with live demos and practical lab exercises on common Telecom attacks, audit methodologies, case studies on the telecom attacks and reported vulnerabilities.

Participants were given several tasks: Live demos and practical on Analysis Tele-com simulated packets and Capture the Flag (CTF) activities. These activities are assessed and certificates are issued based on their performance.

The overall training was initiated under the directive support of Dr. Sanjay Bahl, Director General of CERT-In, Dr. P R Lakshmi Eswari, Centre Head, C-DAC Hyderabad with active contributions from Shri. S S Sharma, Sc-G and Shri. V V Rao, Sc-E of CERT-In. The course is designed and coordinated by Dr. Ch A S Murty, Scientist G and Group Head. The course was implemented by Mrs. Indraveni K, Scientist E, ISS Team, Shri. B. Nandeeshwar, Project Manager, Shri. Tyeb Naushad, Project Manager, Shri. Raghvendra Sharma, Project Manager, Shri. Akash Mishra, Project Engineer, Shri. E Naresh, Project Officer of C-DAC Hyderabad alongside Telecom Industry experts invited for delivering the session and support from Dr. Marshal R CERT-In with other technical members of C-DAC and CERT-In teams.

Methodology
Groups discussions, group activities, Live quiz during the sessions, capture the flag (CTF) events, lab sessions, demonstrations, Hands on Telecom Network Analysis, etc.,

Training Kit
The material of Cyber Security for Telecom Security - Level 1 were provided to all the participants online and hard copies of course, lab documents, case studies were distributed.

Feedback and Certification Exam
The training was well appreciated by the participants and received excellent feedback for the interactive hands on and practical sessions. A certification examination for Level-1 Telecom Security Engineer has been conducted for the participants.
