Hemant Darbari appointed Executive Director of C-DAC

Hemant Darbari has been appointed the new Executive Director of the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC ).The post was so far lying vacant and Rajan T Joseph, Director General, C-DAC was handling the additional charge. Darbari is heads the Applied Artificial Intelligence (AAI) and Advanced Computing and Training School (ACTS) group at C-DAC presently. Darbari specialises in Artificial Intelligence system.
Under his leadership various language application tools were launched by C-DAC recently. His group has developed e-Mahashabdakosh,a English-Hindi bi-directional pronunciation-cum-usage dictionary for administrative purposes as well as Mantra,an English to Hindi machine assisted translation system for Rajya Sabha proceedings.
Under the Tech-Sangam initiative of the ACTS group,the C-DAC has signed a memorandum of understanding with 292 colleges across India,to impart training to students. In the past five years, Darbari has completed over 50 projects in areas of machine assisted translation, information extraction/retrieval, automated speech recognition, text-to-speech system among others.
