Brief Description
The Biometric Seafarer Identity Document (b-SID) Project is a strategic initiative by the Government of India, spearheaded by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. It is being undertaken in alignment with India’s commitment to ratify the International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention C-185 – the Seafarers’ Identity Documents Convention.
The objective of the project is to modernize the identity management of Indian seafarers by issuing secure, biometric-enabled Seafarer Identity Documents that comply with global standards.
