Hallmarking Unique Identity
CDAC’s Hallmarking Unique Identity (HUID) system, based on open-source technologies, automates the hallmarking workflow to prevent the sale of counterfeit jewellery, enhance traceability, and improve data visibility and authentication. This system, developed for the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), uniquely tracks each hallmarked jewellery piece, recording detailed information on each article's origin, authenticity, and hallmarking process. Jewellers can register and request hallmarking online, with each approved article assigned a unique six-digit HUID, laser-engraved for traceability. Since its launch in July 2021, the system has generated approximately 430 million HUIDs, supporting transparency and reliability for consumers, jewellers, AHCs, and BIS officials.
