C-DAC has worked on all levels required for Indian Language Computing since mid 1980s, right from fonts (True Type to Open Type) to corpora to NLP Tools like Spell-checkers/Grammar Checkers to Onomatology based tools like names Transliteration and Name Matching, etc.

Following has been the journey so far.

C-DAC started with developing several True Type Fonts (TTFs) and Open Font Format for various scripts in all 22 official languages. Over 8000 fonts consisting of True Type, Open Type and Bitmap have been produced so far.

In language computing, corpus plays a major role. Aligned corpora provide the basis for extraction of various linguistic resources, and are useful for building translation memory, cross-language information retrieval systems, terminology extraction, etc. C-DAC has also developed dictionaries in collaboration with the Language Boards and Academies of the particular linguistic region. In the age of AI, these can be used to train and/or further enhance the AI models.

To enable development of Indian language content with greater ease, C-DAC has developed a plethora of tools including award winning tools like ISM, iLEAP, LEAP Office.

Next higher end NLP tools like Spell-checkers, Grammar Checkers, Transliteration, Lemmatizers, etc. were developed.

C-DAC has also developed tools in the field of Onomatology which finds great use in e-gov applications, like Name Transliteration, Name Matching, Name Variant Search, etc.

C-DAC has added to it’s repository AI-based higher NLP Tools like Translation, OCR, ASR, TTS, etc.
